It sounds like many of you can relate to what Jacob’s been through – dealing with friends who smoke, trying to be your own influence, and seeing the consequences of drug use.

That’s really good that Jacob quit. I used to smoke and drink and I was never myself when I did it. I was always the person they wanted me to be... So I quit over 3 years ago and I haven’t looked back since. My life is starting to get serious now that I’m a senior in high school and I’m glad I don’t have pot and alcohol as a burden anymore. I have to tell you it is hard to be above the influence but defiantly worth it!

I agree with Jacob it’s up to you what you want out of life. I like to take that further by saying that you should take personal responsibility over your own life. That is all it takes to be successful. I have learned if you take some responsibility over your own destiny anything is possible.

Katie says…
I agree with Jacob, I think that if you choose to make a decision only because its “cool” or because your pressured to do it, it shows who is really running your life. And one day that choice that you made is going to comeback sooner or later. Every action has a reaction and its your choice on what you want that reaction to be…so DO live above the influence because what was cool, and what people said wont matter 10 years from now, so think if its really worth it.

Kala says…
I think some people use drugs because of peer pressure and i think others use them to escape their problems, but regardless of what your friends tell you, they can and will hurt you. and if youre using drugs to solve your problems, your problems may not bother you while your high, but once your sober, your problems will STILL be there! its really NOT worth it!

Gina says…
A lot of teens these days try to be something their not just to fit in and they don’t know who they are. I was asked to do drugs but I said no because it’s not me and it can destroy and if people are taking over your life and using you then you wouldn’t know who you are. I am in 8th grade and a lot of people are not the same. I dressed differently at the beginning of the school year but then I realized I am not doing this for myself I am doing this for other people. So I changed and was myself and not worried about anyone else just myself.

I think it is good that Jacob stopped smoking for his siblings. I wouldn’t want someone in my family to start something because I did it.
